You make some really good points. Let wait and see what happens when MS officially launches Win 7. Of course Win 7 isn't anywhere near as good an "upgrade" to vista as Snow Leopard is to Leopard. I was amazed at how far my $29 took me. I even got something like $5 or $10 off the price because I bought it at Best Buy on release day and they had some price match special! What a deal!

Also, in the title of the article you misused the word "site" it should be "sight".

While most of what you say has merit, Windows 7 actually does run faster than it's predecessor, Windows Vista.

Don't get me wrong... I'm a total Mac head. Just, Microsoft is starting to learn a little bit, with Windows 7.

And Apple isn't completely innocent. Leopard required much more computing power than some mac users were willing to commit to, compared to Panther. And Snow Leopard completely drops PowerPC-based systems altogether.

I have a perfectly functioning and fast Powermac G5 Quad-Core. It makes your computer sh*t it's pants. But I can't run Snow Leopard. What gives??

Hi!

I agree with you that this would seem like a shot at MS (even posted a couple of items about it on my own blog). I go even further and believe that when they showed the 3GS with all the peripheral devices, like health care, they were taking an even more direct aim as a small-business/mobile computing platform.

But I think the missing piece in this is the Unicorn - the tablet. See, *IF* they announce it and just show how you can watch videos and listen to music on it, then they are happy to let MS be. If they say you can listen to music, watch movies and do your inventory, use it for conferencing, and as part of an easy to set up network for small businesses, then they are saying they're ready to be promoted to the big leagues.

I think that's the missing part, and when we see it then we'll be able to say if Apple is going for the gold, or just poking the crazy.
