This is a very common question that I get often.  People hear about it and hear some basic information on how they can use PLR and MRR products.  So I want to take the mystery out of what they are and how you can use them.  Let me first define the 2 acronyms.

    Definitions:

PLR – PLR stands for Private Label Rights.  Meaning you have rights to put your “label” or name on them.  There are some different options with PLR products that I will talk about more below.

MRR - MRR stands for Master Resell Rights.  With master resell rights, you get just that, the rights to resell the product and keep 100% of the profit.  So far this sounds a lot like PLR right?  That is why they are so easily confused.  Below I will talk about each and the differences between them that everyone needs to know.

We are going to start with PLR.  With Private Label Rights products you get the product in it’s raw form.  You can then modify the product if you want, put your name on it if you want and can sell the product and keep 100% of the profit.  Many people take PLR products, put their name on it and sell it as their own.  Which is perfectly fine, that is the idea behind PLR products.

You basically can do anything you want with it because you have the rights with PLR products.

I have used PLR products in the past as givaway products when I did not have something to give away.  I always modify the PLR to make it more “my own” before giving it away.

So, I have gotten this question a few times: “Can I buy a PLR product, put my name on it and publish it?”.  The simple answer is yes you can, however I strongly encourage against it if you are going to try to pass it off as your $27 e-book for people to buy.  Here is why: You are not the only one who has access to the PLR product.  The PLR product was written to be distributed to a large number of people.

Now if you use that PLR product as a base and add in your own spin or even add new chapters and re-write the existing ones in your own words that is awesome.  They are great for giveaways.

Now there are many types of PLR products out there.  There are articles, ebooks, software, emails, etc.  Many PLR products will even come with predone websites to help you give away or sell the product.

Bottom line, with PLR products you can do anything you want with them.  If you are comfortable with it, you can download a free plr product and sell it for $100 if you want or simply give it away.

    MRR

Now lets move to MRR or Master Resell Rights.  The name says it all.  You have the right to Resell the product and keep 100% of the profit.  However, that does not give you the right to modify it in any way.  And many times there are restrictions on MRR products around if you can give it away and how you can give it away.  For example, you may be able to give it away if another product is purchased and it is a free bonus.  You may be able to just give it away and you may have to charge a minimum amount for it.

I have even seen restrictions on how much it can be sold for.  The rules may sound a little weird but the goal is to not devalue the product.

Now here is a downside to MRR, many times the author has their affiliate links in the product.  Since you are not allowed to modify it, for every copy you sell or give away (if it is allowed) you are advertising for them.  There is another variation of MRR that I will discuss at the end called re-brandable products.

But, to make sure it is clear, with MRR you have many more restrictions than PLR and you must be sure that you can use it the way you want before using it.  If you want to give it away, make sure that you have the right to give it away first.

Now, there is another form of MRR that is called a re-brandable product.  You still cannot make changes to the product itself but you can rebrand it with your affiliate links so when you sell or give away the product your affiliate links are in the product and not the original authors.

A good way to find these type of products is to go to clickbank and search for the word rebrandable.

MRR products are typically software or ebooks.  I have seen a brandable service that was offered as a MRR.  But because of how it works software and ebooks lend themselves easily for MRR.
